The Hunger Resource Database Project

FoodPool has sponsored a project to create a hunger resource database. We are cataloging all hunger relief organizations in the US, be they gleaning groups, food pantries, soup kitchens, policy makers, etc. It is our hope that this project will help both individuals and organizations in a variety of ways: people seeking food assistance can use this database to find local support; people wishing to volunteer can similarly find local or regional orgnizations; gardeners can find gleaning groups and food pantries; and so forth. Moreover, we hope that people working within academia and governmental organizations can use this information to aid their research into solutions to hunger and poverty in America.

Note: To make the data as useful as possible we have produced a rather extensive set of options, many of which may not be relevant to you. Please fill out those portions that pertain to your group. Also, we beg your indulgence in entering your information in a fairly strict format - this will aid in making the database easily sortable and searchable.

We request two types of information. The first set of information will be displayed to users of the site that search for organizations near your zip code. The second grouping of fields will not be shared with anyone and will only be used by FoodPool staff if we need to confirm any of the information you have submitted.

Address information:
Your address is very important for us to be able to correctly geo-locate you and then direct people that are nearby to your organization. Without full address information we will not be able to add you to the database. If your organization serves a large geographic area, please contact us to get your information set up correctly.
For all addresses, please use the following conventions if possible:

Please include a road type (St., Rd., Ave., Dr., Blvd., Ct., Ln., Cir., Plz., Pkwy., etc.) and use the standard abbreviated form with a period.

For numbered streets, please use digits (i.e. "5th St." not "Fifth St.")

Directionals should be entered as capital letters (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW.)

For "suite", "unit", "apartment" etc, please use the pound sign, i.e. #5B.

For the "Address line 1", please do not provide intersections or other notations that cant be geo-located (e.g. "Corner of 5th and Main St." or "5 miles down SR 24.") Information that could be useful to people wanting to find you but which is not standard address info (e.g. "Saint Catherine's Church basement") can be placed in Address line 2 or 3.

For post office boxes, please use the abbreviation "PO Box" (no periods.) If you have both a street address and a PO box, enter the PO box in the mailing information below.
